How to transport a fridge correctly

1

Defrost 24 hours ahead

Empty, defrost, and wipe the appliance dry – otherwise meltwater drips onto the load floor. Secure the doors with a strap or tape, pack loose glass shelves separately.

2

Transport upright

Oil circulates in the compressor. Laid down, it can flow into the cooling circuit and block it. Upright in a van with load securing is therefore always the first choice.

3

Wait after the transport

If the fridge stood upright, 30–60 minutes are enough. If it was lying down: wait at least 2–4 hours, up to 24 hours after a long time on its side – only then switch it on so the oil can flow back.

Which vehicle do you need?

A full-height fridge (1.4–2 m) only stands upright and secure from the 2.7 m van class; compact models also fit the small van. Always strap it to the lashing points. All dimensions and payloads in the van guide →
