Transport orders for the self-employed
Drive as a sole trader or subcontractor, without a subscription fee and without a bidding process – you see the pay before you commit.
Working alone or with one or two vehicles poses a different problem from running a fleet: the bottleneck is not dispatch but steady utilisation. A good day with three orders helps little if nothing comes in two days later.
That makes the fee structure decisive. A monthly subscription for list access costs the same in a weak week as in a strong one. A share per order driven scales with your actual revenue – in an empty week you pay nothing.
Self-employment in haulage also raises the question of bogus self-employment. Anyone driving permanently for a single client, subject to their instructions and bearing no entrepreneurial risk, can be reclassified as an employee for social-security purposes. Several clients, your own vehicle and the freedom to decline orders point the other way.
