Fleet Management
What fleet management covers, which tasks a fleet manager owns, and how software brings vehicles, drivers, and deadlines together – explained compactly.

Fleet management covers everything around administering and steering company vehicles – from a courier's two vans to a forwarder's truck fleet. At any moment it answers three questions: which vehicles are ready to run? Where are they? And which obligations (inspections, maintenance, licence checks) are due?
The core tasks
- Vehicle administration: maintain master data, plates, classes, payload, and equipment centrally.
- Deadlines & obligations: manage inspection dates, maintenance intervals, insurance, and licence checks on time.
- Driver management: manage driver profiles, availability, and documents.
- Costs & utilisation: analyse trips, kilometres, and costs per vehicle; spot idle capacity.
- Live locations: know where every vehicle is right now – for dispatch and customer updates.
From binders to software
Small fleets start with spreadsheets and a fleet administration template. Once several vehicles, drivers, and deadlines come together, duplicate upkeep becomes a risk: dates slip, records go missing, nobody knows which vehicle is free. Fleet management software solves this with automatic reminders, digital document storage, and live locations – and connects the fleet directly to orders and tours.
Fleet management in the Maxmove TMS
At Maxmove, fleet management isn't an add-on module but part of the transport management system: vehicle classes and payload feed directly into tour planning and dispatch, locations come from the driver app, and every trip is documented with a digital proof of delivery.
