An ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) is the forecast arrival time of a vehicle or shipment. It is not a guarantee; it changes as new position, traffic and order information becomes available.
How an ETA is calculated
In simple terms: current time + remaining driving time + planned stops + expected service and waiting time. A useful ETA therefore includes more than navigation. On a multi-stop route, route planning needs to account for all handling time before the destination.
Worked calculation
At 09:40, pure driving time is 48 minutes. One stop before the destination requires ten minutes of service and the planner adds seven minutes of realistic traffic buffer. The ETA is 10:45: 09:40 + 48 + 10 + 7 minutes. If the stop takes 18 rather than ten minutes, the forecast moves to 10:53.
ETA, ETD and ATA

Comparing ETA with ATA reveals prediction quality. Repeated variance can point to unrealistic service times, poor master data or habitual waiting at a site.
Dispatch uses ETA to detect likely delays, while recipients can prepare staff or loading docks. Telematics supplies live events and geofencing can record arrival automatically.
