Shopfitting logistics: planned backwards from opening day
A store refit is planned backwards from opening day: strip-out after closing, installation overnight or over a few closed days, merchandising, opening. Gondola shelving, checkout counters, showcases, lighting, signage and digital signage screens have to be at the shop entrance exactly when the installation team is on site – not earlier, because there is no room to store anything in the shop, and not later, because a whole crew is then left waiting.
What typically goes wrong: the van is stuck outside a pedestrian zone that is closed to deliveries at that hour. In the shopping centre, the goods lift has not been booked, or the counter does not fit through the door to the service corridor. High-gloss fronts and glass showcases arrive scratched because they travelled between cartons without blankets. And on a multi-site rollout, the project manager ends up chasing every single driver by phone.
Maxmove drives store fixtures as a direct drive from workshop or warehouse to the branch – no depot transshipment, with blankets and lashing straps in the vehicle. Access, unloading zone, floor, goods lift and contact person are on the order, and your installation team sees the arrival in live tracking. Assembly, installation and electrical connection stay with you.

Three typical drives for shopfitters in NRW
Boutique refit, shopping-centre delivery and strip-out – how shopfitting drives run in Cologne, Oberhausen and Düsseldorf.
Checkout zone for a store on Ehrenstraße
A shopfitting workshop in Cologne-Ossendorf delivers a checkout counter, wall panels and lighting for a boutique on Cologne's Ehrenstraße. The street is a pedestrian zone where delivery traffic is allowed on weekdays between 6 and 11 a.m. – so the pickup is timed for the Sprinter to arrive early in that window and the team can start before the shop opens. A second person is booked for the counter. The installation lead takes delivery at the shop entrance, and photos show every part before it is fitted.
Pop-up space at Centro Oberhausen
For a pop-up space at Westfield Centro in Oberhausen's Neue Mitte, the 3.5-tonne box van brings shelving, displays and two screens from the shopfitter's warehouse in Oberhausen-Sterkrade. Delivery runs via the service yard and goods lift; the shopfitter has agreed the time slot and lift booking with centre management and noted both on the order. The screens travel upright in their original boxes, and the store manager signs for the handover.
Strip-out and relocation in Düsseldorf
After the refit of a store on Düsseldorf's Schadowstraße, gondola shelving that is still in good shape goes to a second branch in Düsseldorf-Bilk, while leftover material and rental fixtures go to the warehouse in Düsseldorf-Reisholz – two stops on one order with the Sprinter. For the rental fixtures, the photos in the proof of delivery record their condition on return. That shows the rented items came back complete and without new damage.

What has to be settled before delivery day
Access, installation window, packaging, weight and acceptance: what your team arranges and what the driver takes care of.
Access to pedestrian zones and centres
Vehicles may only enter a pedestrian zone (sign 242.1 in Annex 2 of the German road traffic regulations, StVO) if an additional sign permits it – and then only at the times shown and at walking pace. Shopping centres regulate deliveries through their house rules: service yard, time slots, goods lift, often with registration at centre management. Your project team clarifies these rules beforehand and enters them on the order; the driver follows them and reports to the named contact.
Installation window, dimensions and contact
Time the pickup so that the goods arrive within the installation window, and name an on-site contact with a phone number. Check door widths, lift dimensions and lift capacity in advance: a service counter that does not fit the goods lift has to go up the stairs, which needs a second person. Floor, routes and the drop-off spot in the store belong on the order. Our glossary entry on delivery notification shows what a good advance notice looks like.
Packing delicate fixtures
Under section 411 of the German Commercial Code (HGB), the sender packs the goods so that they are protected against loss and damage. In shopfitting that means high-gloss and lacquered fronts with edge protectors and film, lighting and electronics boxed, screens upright in their original boxes. Glass shelves and showcase panes travel upright on a rack, not lying flat between other parts. The driver brings blankets, interleaves and lashing straps.
Weight and load securing
Counters with stone tops, showcases and steel shelves are heavier than they look. Enter the weight and dimensions of the heaviest parts when booking, so vehicle class and carrying help match. In the vehicle, the driver secures the load against slipping and tipping as section 22 StVO requires; guideline VDI 2700 Part 16 describes how for vans up to 7.5 tonnes. Tall, narrow parts such as shelf uprights stand against the side wall and are strapped individually.
Handover, acceptance and damage
Have your installation lead check the goods at handover. Under section 438 HGB, visible damage must be reported at delivery at the latest, and concealed damage in text form within seven days. The photos in the proof of delivery show every part at the recipient. Assembly, electrical connection and commissioning are not part of the transport and remain with your shopfitting or installation team.
Which vehicle suits which refit
POS displays, lighting and signage for a promotional area fit the compact van with up to 400 kg. Individual counters and shelving systems travel in the van or the Sprinter with 3.2 m load length and 1,000 kg payload. A complete store fit-out, wall panels up to 4.2 m and heavy counters go in the 3.5-tonne box van with up to 1,200 kg. If one vehicle is not enough, book several drives for the same installation window.

How a shopfitting delivery works
- 01
Create the order with the install window
Enter pickup location, branch, installation window, the heaviest parts and access rules. You see the instant price and available pickup windows and time the pickup to the start of installation.
- 02
Loading at workshop or warehouse
The driver takes over the fixtures, pads delicate parts with blankets and secures the load. Your notes on access, lift and contact person are in the driver's app.
- 03
Direct drive with live tracking
The vehicle drives straight to the branch. Installation lead and project manager see the arrival live and can have the team ready for unloading.
- 04
Handover to the installation lead
Unloading happens at the agreed handover point. The installation lead signs in the app, and photos and timestamp go into the digital proof of delivery for your project.
Why Maxmove for Shopfitting
Delivery inside the installation window
In shopfitting the right slot matters, not the fastest one. You time the pickup so the fixtures arrive when the installation team is on site, and record access, unloading zone and contact person directly on the order.
Rollouts across multiple branches
In a refit programme, similar shipments go to many addresses. You book the drives per location and see the status of every delivery in one place; billing runs through your business account, on request as a monthly collective invoice.
Strip-outs, relocations and rental items
After a refit, old fixtures go to another branch, leftover material to the warehouse and rental items back to the hire company. You book these drives like the outbound one, with several destinations as stops on one order – and photos of the condition on return.
