Machinery transport for single machines – hall to hall, no transloading

Band saw, pillar drill, compressor or injection mould: we collect single machines and assemblies up to 3,000 kg ready to load and drive them, secured, straight to the destination. Relocating an entire production area is a machinery relocation instead.

One machine, one vehicle, one route

Most machinery transports are not heavy-haulage jobs. A subcontract machinist buys a used band saw, a plastics processor sends an injection mould for repair, a compressor moves to the second plant, a demonstration machine goes to a customer. These are single items between a few hundred kilograms and just over a tonne – too heavy and too delicate for a parcel service, too small for a low-loader and crane.

What goes wrong is almost always the same: the actual weight differs from the rating plate because accessories, clamping equipment or fluids add to it. There is no forklift at the destination. The machine sits in the hall without a pallet or transport locks, or its centre of gravity is high and nobody mentioned it. Then the job fails at the loading dock.

Maxmove moves single machines as a direct drive in a van, Sprinter, 3.5-tonne box van or 7.5-tonne truck with up to 3,000 kg payload. You enter dimensions, weight and loading facilities and see the binding instant price and the earliest pickup window; the driver secures the ready-to-load machine with lashing straps and anti-slip mats. If several machines, a workshop or a whole production area are moving, machinery relocation is the right page. Machines over 3,000 kg are arranged as a special run.

Machinery transports from everyday work in NRW

Single items between two addresses – with a forklift at both ends or a clear agreement on how loading works.

  • Band saw from a dealer in Remscheid to a machinist

A used-machinery dealer in Remscheid-Hasten has sold a metal-cutting band saw to a subcontract machinist in Solingen. The saw stands on timber bearers, and its weight is in the data sheet. The dealer forklifts it through the rear doors into the 3.5-tonne box van, and the driver secures it with lashing straps and anti-slip mats against tipping and sliding. A forklift is ready at the destination, and the proof of delivery records the handover with photos.

  • Screw compressor between two plants in Bielefeld

A machine builder moves a screw compressor from its plant in Bielefeld-Sennestadt to its second site in Bielefeld-Brackwede. The compressor is disconnected, compressed air and condensate are drained, and the connections are capped. A Sprinter is enough for its size and weight. It is loaded with a pallet truck over the loading dock; disconnection and reconnection are done by the in-house maintenance team. The arrival at the second plant is visible in live tracking.

  • Injection mould to Krefeld for repair

A plastics processor sends an injection mould for repair to a toolmaker in Krefeld-Fichtenhain. The mould is compact but heavy and has polished cavity surfaces. It is closed, locked with its transport strap and bolted to a pallet, with the cooling channels blown out. In the van, the pallet is secured against the front wall. The toolmaker signs digitally, and you book the return after repair as a second order.

What needs settling before a machinery transport

Weight, loading, securing, preparation and permits – and who is responsible for what.

  • State weight, dimensions and centre of gravity

Vehicle choice is based on the actual weight including pallet, accessories and fluids – not just the figure on the rating plate. Give length, width and height, and point out a high or off-centre centre of gravity; top-heavy machines such as pillar drills tip more easily on bends. Machines up to 1,200 kg can be booked online in the 3.5-tonne box van and up to 3,000 kg in the 7.5-tonne truck. Anything heavier, or anything that needs a flatbed with crane loading, is checked as a special run.

  • Loading: you provide the forklift, dock or pallet truck

Under Section 412 of the German Commercial Code (HGB), the sender loads the goods so they are safe for carriage unless agreed otherwise; the carrier is responsible for loading that keeps the vehicle safe to operate. In practice, both pickup and destination need a forklift, a loading dock or enough staff with a pallet truck. The 3.5-tonne box van is available with a tail lift on request, but its lifting capacity is limited – state the weight when you ask and we check whether it is enough.

  • Load securing under Section 22 StVO and VDI 2700 Part 16

The machine must be secured so that it cannot slide, tip over or fall even under emergency braking or a sudden evasive manoeuvre, following recognised engineering practice (Section 22 of the German Road Traffic Regulations, StVO). For vans up to 7.5 t gross vehicle mass, guideline VDI 2700 Part 16 describes the methods. Our drivers use lashing straps and anti-slip mats, blocking against the front wall where possible. Existing lifting and lashing points should be accessible. More in our glossary entry on truck load securing.

  • Get the machine ready to load

Disconnect it from power, detach cables and hoses, and lock moving axes, tables and spindle heads with the transport locks described in the operating manual. Drain coolant, oil or condensate or seal the reservoirs tightly, and pack loose parts and accessories separately. You arrange dismantling, installation, alignment and recommissioning yourself or with the manufacturer – we handle the transport, with carrying help on request.

  • Permits only above the legal limits

Under Section 29(3) StVO, a permit is required for vehicles whose dimensions, axle loads or total masses actually exceed the generally permitted legal limits. A machine that fits in a van or 3.5-tonne box van and stays within its payload is therefore not a permit-requiring transport. Oversize and heavy transports with permits and escort vehicles belong with specialist companies.

Which vehicle suits which machine

Compact machines on a single pallet up to 900 kg and 1.35 m high, such as a bench drill, mitre saw or welding set, fit into the van with a 2.6 m load length. The Sprinter with a 3.2 m load length and 1.8 m interior height takes taller units such as compressors up to 1,000 kg. For long machines, several pallets or weights up to 1,200 kg, the 3.5-tonne box van with more than 4 m load length is the right vehicle, with a tail lift on request. Heavier machines up to 3,000 kg and lengths up to about 6 m travel in the 7.5-tonne truck.

How a machinery transport works

  1. 01

    Enter the details

Enter pickup and destination, dimensions, weight including pallet, and the loading facilities at both ends. You see suitable vehicles, the instant price and the earliest pickup window.

  2. 02

    Load and secure

Your staff put the ready-to-load machine into the vehicle by forklift, dock or pallet truck, and the driver secures it with lashing straps and anti-slip mats.

  3. 03

    Direct drive to the destination

Straight to the destination with no transloading and no other consignments. The receiver and maintenance team see the arrival in live tracking and have the forklift and staff ready.

  4. 04

    Documented handover

Unloading at the destination and handover with signature, timestamp and photos in the proof of delivery. Report visible damage at handover and hidden damage within seven days (Section 438 HGB).

Why Maxmove for Machinery transport

  • Built for single items

A band saw or a compressor does not need a low-loader. You book the van or 3.5-tonne box van that matches the dimensions and weight, see the binding instant price straight away and do not pay for capacity you do not use.

  • Secured and documented

The driver secures the machine with lashing straps and anti-slip mats, as Section 22 StVO and VDI 2700 require. The signature, timestamp and photos in the digital proof of delivery show the condition in which the machine was handed over.

  • Honest limits before you book

Online booking goes up to 3,000 kg. Heavier machines, crane loading or flatbed trucks are arranged as a special run on request, and whole production areas move as a machinery relocation. We say so before you book, so no job fails at the loading dock.
